Rental Mileage Limits Explained: 150 km a Day and What Extra Costs

The published allowance

Every Auris rental, in Turkey and Syria, comes with a kilometre allowance:

  • 150 km per day
  • 3,500 km per month

Kilometres above the allowance are charged at:

  • Turkey: $0.10 or $0.20 per extra kilometre, depending on the car
  • Syria: $1 per extra kilometre

These are in the published rental conditions. Confirm which Turkey rate applies to your car when you book, and ask how the allowance is counted for your booking — across the whole rental or day by day — before a long trip.

Will 150 km a day be enough?

For city stays, almost always. A day of driving around Istanbul or Damascus rarely gets near 150 km. The allowance starts to matter on intercity trips:

TripApprox. round trip
Istanbul – Sapanca~300 km
Istanbul – Bursa~300–400 km depending on route
Istanbul – Ankara~900 km
Damascus – Maaloula & Saidnaya~130–150 km
Damascus – Bosra~280 km
Damascus – Aleppo~700 km

All approximate. A single long day can go well over 150 km; what usually matters is the total for the whole rental.

How to estimate before you book

1. Add up your planned trips. Use round-trip figures, not one-way.

2. Add a city allowance of 20–40 km for each day you are mostly in town.

3. Compare with your allowance: number of days × 150 km.

4. If you are over, multiply the difference by the extra-kilometre rate for your country and car.

Worked examples

Turkey, 5 days, Istanbul plus a trip to Ankara and back.

Allowance: 5 × 150 = 750 km. Ankara round trip ~900 km, plus four city days at ~30 km = ~1,020 km.

Over by ~270 km. At $0.10/km that is about $27; at $0.20/km about $54.

Syria, 7 days, the Damascus–coast–Aleppo loop.

Allowance: 7 × 150 = 1,050 km. Our seven-day loop comes to ~1,000 km.

Inside the allowance — but only just, so avoid large detours.

Syria, 4 days, Damascus with one day trip to Aleppo and back.

Allowance: 4 × 150 = 600 km. Aleppo round trip ~700 km, plus three city days at ~30 km = ~790 km.

Over by ~190 km. At $1/km that is about $190. Worth planning for — or staying a night in Aleppo and spreading the trip over a longer rental.

Why Syria's rate is different

The Syria rate is higher per kilometre than Turkey's. On long Syrian road trips, that makes estimating in advance more important. Telling the team your full route at booking avoids surprises at return.

Monthly rentals

On a monthly rental, the 3,500 km allowance applies. That is a little over 115 km a day on average — plenty for living in a city with occasional trips, tight if you plan to tour every week. See our weekly vs monthly guide for Turkey and long-term rental in Damascus for Syria.

How the reading is checked

Make sure the odometer reading is noted at pickup and at return. Photograph the dashboard at both moments — it is the simplest record you can keep. Our return guide covers the rest of the handover.
