Can a rental car be delivered to a hotel in Istanbul?

Auris lists car delivery and pickup among its services, and its published conditions show an Istanbul delivery charge of $15 to $30. Whether your exact hotel address can be served depends on the street, the date and the driver's access, so confirm the address, the time and the charge in writing before you rely on it.

Online booking currently offers Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) as pickup points. A hotel handover is something you arrange with Auris, for example on WhatsApp.

What should you send to arrange it?

Send everything in one message so nothing has to be guessed later:

• Hotel name and a map pin, not only the district name.
• Arrival date and the time you will actually be there.
• Your phone number for the person delivering the car.
• The car you booked and whether you need a child seat or a second driver.
• Where the hotel says the car can stop, if you have asked them.

Ask for confirmation of the time window, the person who will meet you and the delivery charge for that address.

Which parts of Istanbul are hard to deliver to?

Some old streets are narrow, one-way or partly pedestrianised, and a car cannot always stop at the door. Areas around Sultanahmet and parts of Beyoğlu and Karaköy are typical examples. In those cases the handover may take place at a nearby street or car park instead of the hotel entrance.

What happens at the handover?

You will normally be asked for your passport or ID and driving licence, and to agree how the deposit is handled. Walk around the car with the handler, photograph every panel and the dashboard, note the fuel level and check the paperwork. What are the common mistakes with hotel delivery?

The usual mistakes are giving only the district name, changing the arrival time without telling anyone, expecting the car to reach a pedestrian street, skipping the photo inspection and not agreeing in advance how the deposit will be handled.

Avoid all five by sending the map pin and time in one message, confirming the meeting point with the hotel, and photographing the car before you drive away.

What should you confirm about the return?

Ask whether the car can be collected from the same address, what time, and whether that carries a separate charge. If the hotel has no easy access, agree a nearby meeting point.
